In the shit house, a shotgun
Praying hands hold me down
Only the hunter was hunted
In this tin can town, tin can town
No stars in the black night
Looks like the sky fall down
No sun in the daylight
Looks like it's chained to the ground, chained to the ground.

[Spoken]
"Yep. Silver and gold.
This song was written in a hotel room in New York City.
Right about the time a friend of ours, little Steven,
Was pulling together a record of artists against Apartheid.
It's a song written about a man, in a shanty town outside of Johannesburg.
A man who's sick of looking down the barrel of White South Africa.
A man at the point where he is ready to take up arms against his oppressor.
A man who's lost faith in the peace makers of the West.
While they argue and while they fail to support a man like Bishop Tutu.
And his request for economic sanctions against South Africa.
Am I bugging you? I don't mean to bug ya'.
Okay Edge, play the blues."
[Guitar solo]

Silver and Gold (Rattle and Hum Version -additions) by U2
Transcribed by Richard Zangoli.
I saw the transcription to this song on the archive by J Jacob and it was
pretty good but there were some gaps in it. So this is just to fill them in.
So this should be used in conjunction with the previous transcription.
Remember to tune down half a step.
The E chord for the intro isn't incorrect but Edge mainly (only?) plays a
palm muted E string. To get the same effect, you have to use a delay pedal.
I set mine a around 500ms. As well, when Bono sings "sky fall down" you can
here playing around with 12th fret harmonics so it sounds good if you play
something like this at that stage-
harmonics
E------------------------
B------------------------
G------------------------ but again you wont get the same effect without any
D---------12-------12--- delay
A----12--------12-------
E------------------------
After Bono sings "If you want a way out" and in similar parts of the song,
play this (slide down the fretboard and play some 12th fret harmonics)-
harmonics
E---------------------
B----s/12-----------
G----s/12-------------
D----s/12-----------
A--------------------
E---------------------
Just before the first guitar solo Edge plays the open big E string (and
perhaps a few notes of an E chord) again but this time he doesn't really
strum or pick it but rather half picks it and half hits it with the palm of
his hand and lets the delay ring out. He does this a few times during the
song. One of those times is just before and at the beginning of Bono's
famous "don't mean to bug yah" speech. A couple of lines into the speech he
plays the tab below (which he continues for the rest of it) but note that he
doesn't strum the strings but
rather hits them with his thumb.
